Buffett To Buy $4.5B Stake In Marmon

Berkshire Hathaway, the firm controlled by Warren E. Buffett, said Tuesday that it would pay $4.5 billion for a controlling stake in Marmon Holdings, an industrial conglomerate owned by the Pritzker family, the prominent Chicago business dynasty.
The deal would go a long way toward unwinding the business interests of the Pritzkers, a process the family began in 2001. For Mr. Buffett, the deal represents his largest acquisition outside the insurance industry and suggests that he is acting on his stated desire to make more deals with the tens of billions in cash that Berkshire has been husbanding for years.

美國富豪Warren Buffett所經營的Berkshire Hathaway Inc.(BRKA-US)將斥資45億美元，收購Marmon Holdings Inc. 60%的股權。Marmon Holdings為芝加哥Pritzker家族所擁有。總部位於內布拉斯加州Omaha的Berkshire在25日表示，其餘的股權將在6年內收購完畢。Marmon在2002-2007年期間，營業淨利的增幅超過3倍，每年的營收達70億美元，擁有125個以上的製造與服務部門。Buffett在昨日說，包括用於能源相關市場的電線電纜、出租建築設備等業務在內，Marmon擁有令人印象深刻的成長與收益紀錄；「收購的拍板定案與完成交易細節刻不容緩」。此樁收購預計將在2008年第1季結束，至於Berkshire收購剩餘股權的成本將視Marmon未來的獲利狀況而定。Berkshire收購Marmon一案，是Buffett自2005年以來最大的收購案。Buffett去年以40億美元的價碼收購以色列金屬刀具公司Iscar Metalworking Cos. 80%的股權。自Jay Pritzker在1999年去世後，Pritzker家族便一直在討論分家的問題。Jay Pritzker 1957年透過收購位於洛杉磯的Hyatt House(凱悅旅館)，開始踏上經營飯店Global Hyatt Corp.(環球凱悅集團)。Marmon官方網站上的資料顯示，公司員工達2.15萬人，大多數分散於北美、英國、歐洲及中國。Jay Pritzker與他的胞弟Robert 在1953年買下Marmon。
